A cattle drive’s point rider is the hand who rides out in front of the herd to determine the direction and speed the herd will travel. The position is one of honor, and requires knowledge, experience, and determination. The point rider gives the herd someone to follow.

The POINT RIDER AWARD is given to one who, through effort and example, has been instrumental in the success of the Cimarron Cowboy Music and Poetry Gathering.

Randy Huston humbly accepts the 2018 year’s Point Rider Award

As part of our Saturday night performance August 25 at the Fifth Annual Cimarron Cowboy Music and Poetry Gathering, we awarded the POINT RIDER AWARD to Randy Huston. For once, Randy was at a loss for words. Terry Nash, last year's recipient of the trophy buckle, presented the award. Randy was really caught off guard after an evening of banter and one-upmanship.

Congratulations to everyone's friend, Randy Huston.
